I pet fish. But affordable one. Not like those fish cost tens of thousands of dollars.  Today I am going to tell you a story regarding dragon fish which is so much coveted in Asian market.

What would you rather have, a new car or this fish? Turns out they cost around the same. What are so special about this fish? People have gone to prison over it. Its real name is Asian Arowana. The fish gets its nickname for how it resembles a dragon in flight as it swim.

It is valuable commodity and that had driven tremendous amount of crime around the areas where its bred. Let’s me show a book called ‘The Dragon Behind the Glass’. Until the second half of 20th century, these fish weren’t flaunted. They were fileted and eaten by locals.

In 1967, an aquarium trader travel through northern Malaysia saw a dead Arowana at a food market and found it so attractive that he sought one out to keep as pet. By the 1980s, Arowana turned up in Taiwan and eventually all people in Asia wanted one.

Keeping this fish is very much macho hobby. There’s not a lot of women that do it. It is almost like collecting car or something like that. People have gone to prison for trafficking this fish. Because it is banned by the US Endangered Species Act. So don’t think off keeping a dragon-like pet, ever.

How can I make friend in a social event? Let’s say I participate in a cocktail party or a happy hour. The most effective tip is to shift my mindset. Stop thinking of what am I going to say to these people. Instead go there and think how can I make people around me feel comfortable?

The biggest misconception about introverts is that they are antisocial or misanthropic. It is not true. They are just differently social. Introvert prefer to invest their times in a few close relationships. They tend to make friends who they think they have connection with.

Another thing is, don’t put ourselves too much pressure on thing you don’t like and instead actively seek out the ones you do.

I am afraid on public speaking. I used to be terrified of speaking in front of people. I saw it as a terror so profound that there was no way to overcome it. It is myself must expose to thing that I fear in very small manageable bite sized steps. So, I don’t start by giving a Ted Talk. I can start slowly with Toastmaster.

And little by little, the terror recedes, and I can bring my personality into the room with me.

Come Chinese New Year, mandarin orange hit tables across Singapore. Usually in original form. It can be also sauce form. They usually have been eaten in plain form or in salad. These orange super fruits have a long journey before they ever make it to our holiday plate.

In Western country, their favorite fruit is cranberries. Odd thing is seldom people know the little pinky fruits are primarily harvested in water. They begin as vines in wetland called bog.

In June, small pink flowers bloom. They said the flowers look like crane, so they give the berry its name, cranberry.  Around late June, the flowers fall of, and actual cranberries start to grow. After that harvesting happens between September and October.

The farmer pours in water in bog and use a harvesting machine to churn up the vine to knock the berries off. The berries have four air pockets inside, so they float to surface of water. Eventually the berries will be pushed to one corner of bog. That is the farmer take them off.

Both mandarin orange or cranberries can become 1000 different product. Ranging from juice, dried fruit, to of course sauce.  The products are sold in stores across 100 countries worldwide.
